Ortigara is one of my favorite places to walk around, set on the slopes of Mount Baldo slope, where silence and peace reign.
Walking through ancient beech forests and green pastures, enjoying the magnificent view of Lake Garda, I reach Malga Ortigara (malga is an old traditional cheese-making hut) and the tiny church of Madonna della Neve.
The church, dated 1663, has been built by counts Carlotti as an ex voto for surviving the plague: in 1630 the noble family retired in the adjacent building, today partly destroyed, for 2 years with their servants and supplies, thus surviving the terrible pandemic.
Surrounded by the richness of nature, I cannot stop thinking that nowadays, as well as in that period, we look forward to celebrating the return to life!
